                                                TUMESCENT LIPOSCULPTURE FAQS

  1. WHAT IS TUMESCENT LIPOSCULPTURE?

Tumescent Liposculpture otherwise called Bodysculpture is the advanced technique of removing excess fat permanently in areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. It is called tumescent (which means to swell) because the surgeon fills and swells the fatty area to be removed with a special solution before the procedure. This solution completely numbs the area due to the effect of local anesthetic, therefore general anesthesia or heavy intravenous sedation is not required. At the same time a substance called adrenalin constricts the blood vessels, reducing bleeding to negligible amounts. Fatty deposits are then removed using straw-like tubes called cannulas connected to a suction apparatus or syringe. It is called Liposculpture or Bodysculpture because the cosmetic surgeon is able to artistically sculpt the body into a new shape using delicate instruments.

Besides the obvious increase safety of tumescent liposculpture performed totally under local anesthesia there are other significant benefits. The patient can cooperate with the surgeon by changing position, including standing up, so the effect of gravity can be observed during the liposculpting to optimize the results.

  1. IS IT PAINFUL?

There is minimal, if any discomfort during the administration of the local anesthetic. Patient usually listens to music or talk during this time. The procedure itself is basically painless and many patients compare it to a deep massage. The anesthetic effect usually lasts for about 24hrs, after which the patient may experience some soreness lasting 1-2 weeks.

  1. HOW SAFE IS TUMESCENT LIPOSCULPTURE?

Tumescent Liposculpture is the safest method of liposuction available. Large studies involving over 15,000 patients reported no admissions to hospital or complications and there were no blood transfusion required as there is minimal blood loss. Reported complications were minor and infrequent.

  1. WHO IS SUITABLE FOR LIPOSCULPTURE?

The ideal candidate is a person who is in good health, exercise regularly, maintains good eating habits and is within 10kg of his or her ideal body weight. It is the most effective method for removing localized fat deposits in body areas not improved with diet and exercise. However persons who are obese can safely have the procedure but may require more than one treatment depending on their goal. Liposculpture allows safe and effective correction of problem areas such as abdomen, outer and inner thighs, hips, waist, and buttocks in patients of almost any age, from 16 to 80yrs old.

  1. HOW MANY DAYS OF WORK WILL I MISS?

Most patients return to work in 2 to 4 days.
